Mission Statement

Research

At the Institute of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology we are engaged in the areas of basic as well as applied, experimental research, which we combine with macroscopic, microscopic and molecular biological topics.

Over the course of the last several years, research efforts at the Institute of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology have formed around various focal points:

  • Locomotor system and regenerative medicine
  • Reproduction and development
  • Tumour biology
  • Archaeozoology
  • Quantitative Morphology

Teaching

In anatomy courses students are taught the basics of the systemic and topographical anatomy of domestic mammals and pets, as well as poultry<link typo3>[EC2] . Herein, great value is placed on applied clinical anatomy and functional anatomy.

In the context of this field of specialization, students will be confronted in particular with imaging propaedeutics. In the histology curriculum, we teach students histology and familiarize them with the fundamentals of cell biology and cytology; we also strive to elucidate the linkages between the microscopic anatomy of various organs with their respective functions.

In both the anatomy and histology curricula, organogenesis and embryogenesis are introduced by means of various specimens, so that students have the opportunity to integrate their acquired knowledge from embryology classes with structures and illustrative material.

Services

Services in anatomy consist of the production of individual bones, skeletons and plastinated organs (mammals, birds and reptiles). Due to limited capacity, in histology and embryology there is the possibility (within limits) of requesting the customized preparation of sections and stains of diverse specimens.
