Abstract: Humoral immunity against C. suis infections in pigs is still only poorly understood (see Schwarz et al., 2013, 2014 hier Link zur Vetdoc,Publikationen Parasitologie), and protective antibodies and their functions are not characterised yet. In order to improve our knowledge of humoral immunity against C. suis, an indirect ELISA for the detection of antibodies (IgG and IgA is developed to screen sera of experimentally infected animals for a more detailed study of the immune response to C. suis. To elucidate the function of serum and milk antibodies, an invasion inhibition assay is being developed in vitro to characterise possible actions of antibodies against invasive (extracellular) stages of the parasite.
