Project Technician Research Group Modic - IST Austria

Your responsibilities:

Modern quantum materials, such as unconventional superconductors, quantum spin liquids, and topological semimetals, host a wide variety of emergent states of matter. A grand experimental challenge is to determine the broken symmetries and topological structure of these states. The Research Group of Kimberly Modic performs thermodynamic measurements in high magnetic fields to answer these questions.

  • Write, update, and maintain data acquisition and instrument control software using LabVIEW
  • Set up new instruments (oscilloscopes, magnet power supplies, temperature controllers and lock-in amplifiers) on the LAN for remote communication
  • Purchase and restock lab supplies and equipment
  • Maintain compressors/pumps associated with the magnet and cryogenic systems (prior experience is not required)

Your profile:

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD, in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, or other relevant fields
  • Previous documented experience working in an experimental laboratory
  • Familiarity with instrument control software (e.g. LabVIEW)
  • Experience with 3D computer design (e.g. Inventor or CAD) is desired
  • Ability to work constructively with students and come up with creative solutions as problems arise
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English
