Book or Journal

How can I find a particular book?

Go to  vetmed:seeker 1 1  on our homepage. There you can search using various keywords (author, title, ISBN, ...). For works published before 1990, it may help to perform a search in the Card catalogue 2 .

From the library inventory you note the institution (main library, campus, teaching and research farm, Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology / KLIVV), the location of the publication (ground floor, KOMP, RARA or rare books section ), the section (e.g. ZO-2/15/80:  Zoology / Reptiles / Turtles) and the location ID.

In the main library the ground floor shelves are arranged alphabetically according to the specialist subject, in the schematic groups the books are not organised by location ID.

Textbooks from the textbook collection (ground floor) are divided by subject and are colour coded to facilitate orientation.

Books from the basement repository (KOMP, KOMP2, RARA) will be fetched by our staff and employees on request.

How can I find a specific journal?

1.     First search the journal (= title of the journal) online in our Electronic journal library (EZB) 3. There you have partial access to full text articles and can print or save them immediately.
If you cannot find the journal here or the full text article is not available online, please proceed to step 2.

2.     Searching for the  location of print edition

  • Search for the journal title in vetmed:seeker 1. If the search is successful, you will instantly get the information on stock size, location and location ID.
If you cannot find the journal here , please continue with step 2/2.

  • Search for the journal title in the Austrian Network Search Engine 4. If the search is successful, the current inventory details will be displayed along with which libraries offer the journal and how many copies are available. The requested journal article may then be ordered either by using our interlibrary loan system .
If you cannot find the journal there, please continue with step 2/3.

  • Search in the German journal database. 5 If the search is successful, the current inventory details will be displayed along with which libraries offer the journal and how many copies are available. The requested journal article may then be ordered either by using our Electronic or via the regular interlibrary loan system 6 .
If you can still not find the journal, please continue with step 3.

3.     Have you entered the  journal title  correctly?  If you have been searching for the title using the abbreviated form, then please try again this time using the full un-abbreviated title.
