Examination of stomach contents for toxic plant residues

Cost: € 110,-

This examination employs macroscopic and microscopic methods to attempt to characterize and identify plant residues in samples of stomach contents – with special attention being paid to the possible presence of toxic plant residues.

The requisite sample size depends on the origin of the sample. In the case of larger herbivores, 1 – 2 kg of material is a reasonable sample amount to send for analysis. The sample material should be frozen and, while frozen, may be stored for some time. Short-term thawing, e.g., during shipping, does not compromise the examination. Samples are washed prior to analysis.
