On 30 January 2013, the ECOVE (European Committee of Veterinary Education) accepted the proposal by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and granted the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna full accreditation as a result of the visitation in November 2012. At the moment, the University is getting prepared for re-accreditation. On-site inspection is planned for November 11–15, 2019.

The European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) is dedicated to evaluation, support and further development of the quality and standards of veterinary education. Their field of activities comprises largely but not only the EU member states. The EAEVE is a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.

Basis of the process

The basis of the process is the national legal frameworks laid down, among others, in §14 of the University Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002) and §22 of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Act (Hochschul-Qualitätssicherungsgesetz). Additionally, the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna must ensure the implementation of EU Directives 2005/36 and 2013/55 in the diploma programme Veterinary Medicine.

Methods

An international team of evaluators will carry out the planned re-accreditation. It is divided into three main sections:

  • Part 1: Assessment of the Self-Evaluation Report
  • Part 2: Questionnaire of the EAEVE evaluator team
  • Part 3: On-site inspection with interviews, tours and document inspection

The international team of EAEVE evaluators will analyse ten areas of assessment in detail:

  1. Objectives, Organisation and Quality Assurance Policy
  2. Finances
  3. Curriculum
  4. Facilities and Equipment
  5. Animal Resources and teaching material of animal origin
  6. Learning resources
  7. Student admission, progression and welfare
  8. Student assessment
  9. Academic and support staff
  10. Research programme, postgraduate and continuing education
