Research of wildlife ecology requires expertise from different scientific disciplines to solve pertinent questions.  The Institute´s overarching research priorities are listed in the left-hand menu.  Within these focal areas the Institute engages in long-term, inter-disciplinary and cross-border research at different levels: individuals, populations, and ecosystems.

We use a variety of methods, from simple observation to detailed chemical analysis, molecular biology and mathematical modelling.

Researchers of the various focal areas collaborate with scientists from other areas.  For instance, research projects with a physiology focus (e.g. about the Alpine marmot and the European ground squirrel) have also resulted in  publications on population dynamics, spatial distribution and conservation of these species.

Our research is supported by our internal service units 1, e.g. our pathology lab 2, our chemistry lab 3 and our biomedical  technology lab 4.
