The Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna is located off campus at Wilhelminenberg in Vienna. The research activities focus on the needs and behaviour of wild animals in ecological contexts in order to provide a scientific basis for effective nature preservation, animal conservation and environmental protection measures and to guide sustainable agriculture, forestry, hunting and land use.
Drawing on empirical research findings, the institute helps to develop practical concepts and solutions to safeguard the welfare of wild animals living in cultivated and human-modified landscapes and to reduce conflicts and problems between humans and wild animals.
