The gastrointestinal tract is the largest organ in the animal organism after the skin hence being the origin of many diseases.

Therefore, the task of Nutritional Physiology is to convey knowledge about basic digestive processes and the influences of nutrition and its influence on the systemic utilization of nutrients to veterinary and biomedical students.

This basic knowledge should provide the base for future veterinarians in regard to diagnostic and therapy of diseases related to the gastrointestinal system and to give recommendations for prophylactic measures.
