Tips for animals: Garden design close to nature

Tips for animals: Switch off the lights - switch on nature

In recent decades, Austria has experienced a drastic decline in many bird and insect species. Intensive agriculture, increasing urbanisation and climate change are destroying more and more natural habitats. But light pollution, the brightening of the night sky by artificial light sources, is also a serious environmental problem and has a significant impact on birds and insects in particular.

This is why our team at the Austrian Ornithological Institute in Seebarn is particularly committed to positively influencing the populations of endangered bird species in the wine-growing landscape. Hoopoes, woodlarks, woodpeckers and bee-eaters are just some of the bird species that used to be commonplace but are now rare. In addition to researching these bird species, conservation measures are being promoted on a scientific basis and implemented with the support of committed winegrowers and landowners in the region.

No matter how large or small your donation was, your support sends a strong signal in favour of preserving our bird diversity.
Thank you very much for this and for your trust in our work for people and animals. Because protecting species also means protecting people!
