Volunteering for the AOC

The Austrian Ornithological Centre is regularly looking for volunteers to help with the field projects (e.g. help in bird capturing and ringing), for events, but also for the preparation of reports and entry of ringing data.  In addition, we occasionally announce volunteer opportunities with other Austrian or international institutions.

Call for assistance at ringing station in South Africa

African Ringing Expeditions (Biodiversity and Development Institute) is setting up a long-term bird monitoring site near Cape Town, South Africa.
Our aim is to cumulatively build a long-term database which can be used for a variety of research studies. Selected species will be colour-ringed to study survival and other aspects (eg territory sizes and interactions).

Two blog posts describe the details of a very successful ringing expedition held recently:

  • Establishing a long-term bird ringing site, Part 1 1 and Part 2 2

Also there is a species list 3 of birds ringed.

You can find details online about African Ringing Expeditions 4 or send an email if there are any queries to Dr H. Dieter Oschadleus.
