Every year, Vetmeduni honours all alumni who successfully completed their doctorate 50 years ago. A total of 22 golden doctoral graduates gathered at their alma mater on 3 November 2022 for this year's ceremony, where Rector Petra Winter and Vice-Rector for Teaching and Clinical Veterinary Medicine Jürgen Rehage once again focused on their doctoral achievements after half a century and presented the graduates with their golden doctoral certificates.
Due to the pandemic-related restrictions of previous years, three graduating classes were exceptionally brought together for this celebration. Two female veterinarians and eight male veterinarians came from the 1970 cohort, six graduates from 1971 accepted the invitation and six veterinarians from 1972 received their Golden Doctorate. Helmut Pechlaner, who managed Schönbrunn Zoo and the Tyrolean Alpine Zoo for many years and was Chairman of the University Council of the Vetmeduni for many years, was also among the honoured doctoral graduates. Following the ceremony, the programme offered campus tours and a cosy end to the day with refreshments, during which one or two old memories from student days were exchanged.
