Our lecturers and alumni:

Lisa Rettl -Historian specialising in National Socialism, culture of remembrance, minority politics and anti-fascist resistance

From 2014 to 2018, Lisa Rettl led the FWF project"The University of Veterinary Medicine under National Socialism", where she and her research team broke new ground in the history of science: two monographs on the history of the University of Veterinary Medicine (Wallstein Verlag) emerged from this research. The results form the essential basis for the Vetmeduni's examination of the Nazi era. In the year of remembrance 2025, Rettl researched traces of expelled Jewish students of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna in Israel for her project "Healing Remembrance" and conducted interviews with descendants. The project was carried out at the Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Graz. The research project was supported by the National Fund of the Republic of Austria, the Future Fund of the Republic of Austria, the David Herzog Foundation, Vetmeduni and the Austrian Veterinary Chamber (ÖTK).

Werner Hagmüller - Self-employment instead of a midlife crisis

Werner Hagmüller studied at the Vetmeduni from 1992 to 1999 and completed his doctorate at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover.
In order to promote animal health on a broad scale, he founded his own pig farming consultancy at the age of 50. The son of a dairy farmer, he moved from cattle to pigs through his many years of involvement in organic farming and now runs a small fattening pig farm with direct marketing.

Regine Anour-Sengstschmid - Alumna, veterinarian and scriptwriter

After studying veterinary medicine in Vienna and Washington State/USA and completing a doctorate in "RAO in Horses", she moved to England, where she took up a position in a small animal/exotic clinic. After returning home, she pursued her second career goal in addition to her practical work as a small animal vet in Brunn am Gebirge: writing. There her focus shifted more and more towards film and television and since 2011 she has been working as a freelance author for various TV and cinema projects.

In her free time, she enjoys good books, tries to inspire her family to go mushroom hunting and occasionally makes a foray into the stand-up comedy scene.
