Regina Holzer was awarded second place at the 2026 Rotary Science Award Tulln for her bachelor’s thesis.

As part of her bachelor’s thesis in the “Biotechnological Processes” program at the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt, she established the methodological foundations for a novel in vitro model for investigating immune-epithelial interactions at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. In doing so, she systematically developed and compared various co-culture approaches using equine intestinal epithelial cells and immune cells for the first time.

The work was conducted at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Susanne Kreuzer-Redmer in the Animal Nutrition Unit and lays an important foundation for future research on equine intestinal diseases as well as for the development of alternatives to animal testing in accordance with the 3R principles (Replace, Reduce, Refine).

As part of its program to support young researchers, the H. Wilhelm Schaumann Foundation annually recognizes the best academic achievements in the field of animal nutrition. Ms. Linn Marie Kwaß impressed the jury with her outstanding thesis, “The load of mycotoxins, phytoestrogens, pesticides and other toxins in a broad range of feedstuffs and implications for Horse Health.”

The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Georg-August University of Göttingen has awarded the Research Grant to Dr. Ratchaneewan Khiaosa-ard and Prof. Dr. Thomas Hartinger, following a decision by the Board of Trustees of the Henneberg-Lehmann Foundation, in recognition of their achievements in the fields of animal nutrition and feed science.

Both were long-time research associates in the Animal Nutrition Research Group at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna.

On February 25, 2026, the Society of Friends of vetmeduni awarded Dr. Theresa Gruber the “Farm Animal Prize” for her outstanding dissertation in a festive ceremony. Ms. Gruber successfully completed her dissertation entitled “Improving the resilience of local forage production in cattle feeding by upgrading drought-impaired forage and optimizing regional forage resources” in 2025. In his laudatory speech, Prof. Zebeli highlighted the award winner's excellent scientific achievement and the significance of her dissertation for the resilience and sustainability of domestic milk production.

The podcast also discussed ways to reduce methane emissions and, above all, the role that cow feed, cow health, other players in the agricultural sector, and consumers can play in this process.
