In research and teaching, we focus on the control of transboundary animal diseases, zoonoses and antibiotic resistance, as well as their economic effects. This includes the development of models for the spread of vector-borne diseases, such as bluetongue, and the impact of global climate change on these diseases.

In the field of antibiotic resistance, we deal with the influence of a variety of factors, such as farm management, animal husbandry and disease prevention, on the occurrence and spread of resistant bacteria. Direct production losses as well as the financial expenditure to prevent or reduce the spread of animal disease are considered in the field of 'Animal Health Economics' with a particular focus on the efficiency and effectiveness of biosecurity measures.

In addition, we plan and organise the training of Austrian official veterinarians (OVs), as well as the training of animal welfare inspectors, in cooperation with the state veterinary directors and federal veterinary authorities.

Our cooperation partners include the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMASGPK), the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), Animal Health Austria (TGÖ) and relevant stakeholders from industry.
