The concept is based on the principle of “never the first time training on a live animal,” an important aspect of the EAEVE guidelines. At the same time, it complies with the 3R principles (replace, reduce, refine) and thus contributes significantly to animal welfare.

The Skills Lab is essential for effectively preparing students to work with live animals. It offers:

  • Safety: a safe working environment for students. Mistakes have no direct consequences for animals.
  • Opportunities for repetition: skills can be practiced as often as desired.
  • Increased self-confidence: Students gain self-confidence before working with live animals.
  • Animal welfare: The use of models and simulators reduces stress on animals and supports the 3R principles (Replace, Reduce, Refine).
