Students are given the opportunity to practise basic practical skills on models - in particular so-called day-one skills.

The VetSim Skills Lab comprises 106 stations (including instructions and posters) in 12 different specialist areas:

• Anesthesiology: 7 stations
• Surgery: 18 stations
• Bovine medicine: 11 stations
• Equine medicine: 11 stations
• Swine medicine: 2 stations
• Dermatology: 2 stations
• Small animal internal medicine: 14 stations
• Laboratory: 14 stations
• Orthopedics: 15 stations
• Nutritional science: 7 stations
• Examination procedures: 3 stations
• Avian and Reptile Medicine: 1 station

The skills lab was redesigned in summer 2025 to improve the service offered. The simulators and training stations are continuously maintained and upgraded to keep both the Skills Lab and the individual stations up to date, to further improve the quality of teaching and training, and to expand the available training opportunities.
