The Clinical Center for Animal Reproduction is an internationally renowned research institution in the Department of Small Animals and Horses. Our research is focused on reproduction of horses, small companion animals, and production farm animals. This includes applied and basic studies at the intersection of fertility, genetics, environment, and animal health, as well as regular communication with stakeholders and the public. Our internationally recognized scientific profile is based on continuous research on our key topics. Combined with profound clinical expertise, this enables the direct application of many research results in clinical veterinary medicine and animal breeding.

Animal welfare in horses is another research topic and is mainly addressed at the Graf Lehndorff Institute in Neustadt (Dosse), Germany. Our responsibility for animals does not end with the birth of healthy neonates but also includes their well-being and health as juveniles and during preparation for equestrian sports and racing. Our research therefore goes beyond reproduction and deals with the physiology, ethology, and training of young horses from an animal welfare perspective.

In the veterinary curriculum, we hold lectures, seminars, and practical classes in reproduction, obstetrics, and neonatology. Besides our regular teaching courses, students from both Austria and abroad are welcome to participate in clinical service and longer-term internships.

Our services for animal patients focus on fertility disorders, assisted reproduction procedures—especially artificial insemination and embryo transfer—contraception, obstetrics, and neonatal diseases. As an EU-approved semen collection center, we ship semen from Austrian stallions all over the world and procure semen from abroad for the insemination of mares in Austria. The clinic's services are supported by state-of-the art laboratories for assisted reproduction and reproductive endocrinology.
