Coccidial antigens and the pig

PhD project Aruna Shrestha

Supervisors: Prof A. Joachim, Prof A. Saalmüller

Funding: Vetmeduni Vienna

Abstract: Only a few immunological studies have been done regarding C. suis which might be the main reason hindering the breakthrough of new treatment and control strategies. The main objective of this project is functional investigations of antigen specific cellular immune response against C. suis to identify the reactive T-cell subsets from piglets of different age groups. For this, various T-cells subsets will be subjected to stage-specific natural and recombinant C. suis antigens in vitro which is expected to give more detailed information about cells responsible for immune response during cystoisosporosis and also the identification of possible candidates for vaccination strategies.
