Third Mission Desvars-Larrive
I am an Associate Professor and group leader in Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. My research is interdisciplinary, bridging field epidemiology and modelling to investigate the drivers and transmission dynamics of infectious diseases. I have a particular interest in zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases, with a core focus on understanding critical spillover interfaces to inform actionable, evidence-based One Health strategies for disease prevention, surveillance, and control. I also have a strong research interest in the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases in livestock systems. Across my work, I am committed to FAIR data principles, promoting data that are findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable to enhance transparency, reproducibility, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
In addition, I serve as a Faculty Member at the Complexity Science Hub Vienna, leading the "Health Across Species" research topic, and co-coordinate the Public Health Group at Disaster Competence Network Austria.
I am a veterinarian by training. I hold a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, a Master's in Parasitology, and hands-on experience as a field veterinary epidemiologist in the Indian Ocean region, where I investigated leptospirosis. My postdoctoral research at Umeå University, Sweden, focused on the eco-epidemiology of tularemia, followed by work at the Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology (Vetmeduni Vienna) on urban rat ecology and rat-borne diseases.
