New IUCN toolkit on infectious disease risks in protected areas published

Under the umbrella of IUCN/WCPA, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and partners have released the MAP–ACT–CREATE technical report. This practice-oriented guide supports managers of protected and conserved areas in assessing infectious disease risks at the human–livestock–wildlife interface, reducing spillover threats, and strengthening preparedness and response capacities.

The MAP–ACT–CREATE toolkit (“Assessing and reducing infectious disease risks in protected and conserved areas”) combines rapid risk assessment (MAP), targeted management actions (ACT), and long-term capacity development (CREATE), and has been field-tested with management teams. As a flexible, field-oriented resource, it supports the implementation of One Health approaches.

Vetmeduni involvement: Chris Walzer (WCS; Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology/Vetmeduni) and Amélie Desvars-Larrive (Unit for One Health/Vetmeduni; Complexity Science Hub Vienna).
