When Every Breath Counts – A Profile of Karin Unger

It’s not just people—animals suffering from respiratory distress also experience immense suffering. At Vetmeduni, Karin Unger, the new assistant professor of critical care medicine, is researching innovative methods of oxygen therapy as well as respiratory monitoring using electrical impedance tomography via a sensor-equipped belt. For one of her projects, this belt was recently adapted from a size suitable for small animals to one suitable for rhinos.
