Paper about Environmental Odour

In the Journal Atmospheric Environment [Link 39] our paper "Factors influencing separation distances against odour annoyance calculated by Gaussian and Lagrangian dispersion models [Link 40]" in the field of environmental odour was published in co-operation with the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics.

Research Highlights:

  • Austrian peak-to-mean algorithm is applied to a Gaussian and a Lagrangian model
  • Atmospheric stability is deduced from ultrasonic anemometer measurements
  • Site-specific peak-to-mean factors are compared and discussed
  • Separation distances for two sites and with two models are compared and discussed
  • The findings are related to the Austrian odour impact criteria

"Distribution of air pollutants"

The overall goal of the project is to improve our current knowledge of air pollution in large agglomerations caused by mankind. The investigation of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and aerosol amounts base on spectral measurements from two instruments located at two different sites in Vienna. The instruments allow for measurements of the sunlight, which is scattered by traces gases and aerosols, at different viewing directions and thus can be used for quantifying the spatial distribution of air pollution.

Project title: "Measurements of the horizontal and vertical distribution of air pollutants in Vienna"
Coordinator: Dr. Alois Schmalwieser
Duration: 15.03.2016-14.03.2019
Funded by: Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung (Austrian Science Fund), Wien
