Mission statement

Our self-concept, our responsibilities and objectives

The Clinic for Ruminants pertains to the Animal Hospital of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna.

Animal health and veterinary public health

Healthy animal herds ensure healthy and safe food for human consumption. We see ourselves as a competent partner for all the bodies overseeing these areas and we are happy to share our research capacity and expertise.

Healthy individuals and animal welfare

In addition to protect human life, we take responsibility for the health and wellbeing of individual animals. Preventative medicine and our daily clinical care provided to the individual animal reflect this responsibility.

Active agricultural partners

With our comprehensive range of veterinary herd health management services, we offer livestock farms our expertise at an affordable rate, thus contributing to safeguarding the subsistence of agricultural holdings.

Centre for education and postgraduate education

One of our main responsibilities is to provide education. As the only educational institution for veterinary medicine in Austria, we must convey our expertise to future and practicing veterinarians and make our research findings transparent.

Support of "public understanding of science"

We strive to meet our obligation of providing information to the public by actively participating in interactive events to share our knowledge with the general public, such as in the context of "Lange Nacht der Forschung" (long night of research). Engaging discussions with visitors provide valuable input for our work.
