Animal care tasks

Team leader: Dr. Claudia Bieber 1

Besides numerous research projects that examine wild animals in their natural habitat, the Research Institute of Wildlife Ecology also keeps a number of different animals for research.  The spectrum ranges from Dzungarian hamsters to dormice, hares, and red deer.

The animals, which are being kept under as natural conditions as possible, contribute to to gaining basic knowledge on ecological, physiological, genetic and health issues for these species.

In addition to caring for the animals, our caretakers provide support for the various research projects of the Institute.

Because of their years of experience with wild animals, next to our veterinarians they also function as contact points for questions about raising and keeping wild animals
