Preceding the conference, a PhD course on 

“Non-invasive Monitoring of Steroid Hormones”

will be offered at the Institute of Biochemistry (University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna)

from 17th - 21st September 2012

 

We kindly invite PhD students and researchers within different research field interested in non-invasive methods (with a focus on faecal samples) for evaluating reproduction and stress to participate.

Topics:

Enzyme Immunoassay (principle; antibody and label preparation)
Sample collection, storage and extraction
Monitoring of adrenocortical activity (stress) and reproduction
Journal club (discussion of selected papers)

Topics will be covered in theory (lectures) and practice (lab exercises). Participants are encouraged to present relevant parts of their projects. Additionally, the course involves a combination of group work and plenary discussions, focusing on non-invasive methods for measuring steroids and interpretation of resulting data.

The volume of the PhD course is 4 ECTS. Participants will get a certificate following approved participation in and accomplishment of the course.

 

The price for the total course is 295€. Coffee breaks and at least one social evening event (dinner on Thursday evening) are covered. Accommodation and Lunch is not included.
